Korean side Jeonbuk would finish as Group H winners in the AFC Champions League if they are able to brush aside Japanese opponents Yokohama Marinos in Sunday’s Matchday 6 clash in Ho Chi Minh City.

Yokohama, 4-time J1 League winners, currently leads the chart which features Vietnamese side Hoàng Anh Gia Lai Football Club and Sydney FC from Australia.

However, the lead is slim and could be dismissed from the summit of the table should they succumb to defeat against the 2021 K League 1 champions.

Marinos manager Kevin Muscat claims his focus has been far away from whether his side would finish as group winners or second place.

“Honestly, I have not spent five minutes thinking about winning the group or finishing second or the number of points we need.

“Thinking of this won’t help my staff or team, it won’t help our performance. My focus is on making sure we are mentally ready for a match we are really looking forward to,” Muscat said in a pre-match interview as quoted by www.the-afc.com/en.

The first leg fixture between the two sides ended 1-0 with 31-year-old German forward Stanislav Iljutcenko scoring a 31st-minute goal to hand victory to the Koreans.

Korean clubs have been impressive in this season’s competition and are aiming to keep up with their performance which saw Pohang Steelers lose to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal.
