Annual Soiree For Diplomats Launched

DIPLOMATIC AFFAIRS TV, a private TV station focused on diplomatic activities has announced an annual soiree for members of Ghana’s diplomatic community in Accra to strengthen Ghana’s bilateral and multilateral relations with other countries.

Dubbed: ‘A Night with the Diplomats’, the event is aimed at providing a platform for corporate Ghana, politicians, and academia to connect and network with the diplomatic community while sharing and exchanging ideas.

The event also seeks to provide a platform for members of the diplomatic community to get closer to the Ghanaian public to understand the cultural dynamics better.

Speaking at the launch of the event in Accra over the weekend, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Diplomatic Affairs TV, Harriet Nartey, said with a typical newsroom having “all kinds of desks, which project news from various angles” she noticed the absence of a very important part of the governance question – which is the subject of diplomacy.

She, together with her team saw the need to create a space which would bring people up to date on the issues and current affairs emanating from the bilateral and multi-lateral sphere, in order to help shape the viewpoints of the world.

This, she underscored, was necessary “because I have always been of the view that, for some reasons even the price of ‘kenkey’ is influenced by diplomacy, therefore, it was time we understood the basic dynamics of diplomacy in the simplest terms hence the creation of Diplomatic Affairs TV which airs every Saturday on Pan African TV.”

Four years down the line, her team has once again blazed the trail by launching the soiree for diplomats which is expected to kick start officially in November or December next year before the diplomatic community goes on recess.

“Tonight is not about me”, an elated Ms. Nartey exclaimed. “It is about something greater – networking and connections! The launch of ‘A Night with the Diplomats’ – an event to celebrate our key stakeholders i.e. the diplomatic community for opening their doors to us to do what we do best; and to also express our appreciation to Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration for the opportunity granted us to serve God and country.”

The launch, held in collaboration with the Labadi beach Hotel, brought together notable personalities from both the diplomatic community and government who took turns to make a few remarks or share some insights with attendees.

They include Ambassador D.K. Osei, President, Council on Foreign Relations, Ghana; H.E. Claudia Turbay Quintero, Ambassador of Colombia to Ghana and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps; H.E. Dr. Aisa Kacyira Kirabo, High Commissioner of Rwanda to Ghana; and Ambassador Michael Oquaye Jnr., CEO, Ghana Free Zones Authority.

Others were Ambassador Henry Tachie-Menson, Acting Chief Director, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration; ace reggae musician, Rocky Dawuni, UN Goodwill Ambassador and René Vincent-Ernst, General Manager, Labadi Beach Hotel.
