The UN’s Chairman for Africa Regional Mechanism for Major Groups, Daniel Kofi Kankam, has been outdoored as the new chief of Atwima-Wioso in the Atwima Nwabiagya North Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

This was after he swore the oath of allegiance to the Anantahene of Otumfuo, Baffour Fosu Twitwiakwa II, at a colourful ceremony recently.

The outdooring event, which was held in the Wioso community, was witnessed by a large crowd of people, including royals and divisional chiefs of the traditional area.

Tradition was at its best as the new chief, adorned in a black cloth, was carried high amidst the playing of traditional drums.

The occupational social worker, who responses to a stool name Nana Kwakwah Bene Ababio, 46, succeeded Nana Kwame Kusi II, who passed into glory.

Before he was allowed to draw the sword to swear, Baffour Fosu Twitwiakwa II asked for unalloyed royalty, respect, dedication and honesty from the newly installed chief, who was advised to exhibit a high sense of integrity and morality as well as serve the people.

Nana Kwakwah Bene Ababio declared his commitment and readiness to help develop and transform his traditional community to take its proper position.

He said, education would be his major preoccupation, apart from creating economic and social opportunities for the youth in order to help develop their employable skills to engender prosperity among the community members.

The chief, a convener of Ghana Civil Society Organisation, expressed his profound gratitude to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, his people and other chiefs, for their support, wise counsel, and service in the processes leading to his installation and swearing in.

He pleaded with the stakeholders and the youth in the community to team up with him to champion the welfare and improve health and sanitation conditions in the area, while pledging to collaborate with Baffour Twitwiakwa II to bring into the community junior high and senior high schools.
