Despite Suraj Seidu’s latest call-up, Premier League Regulations don’t permit Hearts of Oak to ask for postponement of games

The Ghana Premier League Regulations do not empowers Hearts of Oak to ask for postponement of their league and FA Cup games.

Ghana coach Annor Walker has handed a late call-up to offensive midfielder Suraj Seidu. The decision has increased the number of Hearts players in the Ghana camp. However, the development is still not enough to favour the Phobians to make a case before the Ghana FA.

The Black Galaxies is not considered a National Team A as required by the regulations where 3 players would have been enough for the Rainbow Club to call for postponement of games. The Black Stars are Ghana’s National Team A.

Daniel Afriyie Barnieh would no longer be counted as a Hearts of Oak player after Saturday or at least before the tournament starts in Algeria, however the Phobians would still have 4 players in the camp of the Ghana CHAN team and that is still enough to call for postponement of their league and FA Cup matches.

Article 12 (5) of the 2019 Ghana Premier League stipulates that a club could call for a postponement of its league or FA Cup game (s) in an event that they contribute 3 or more players to the National Team A.

“Where a club has contributed three (3) players or more to the National Team “A” or 5 players or more in any combination of the National Team ‘A’, National Team “B”, U-23, U-20 or U-17 National Teams, the club may request the postponement of its match and the postponed match shall be rescheduled by the GFA.”

Defenders Dennis Korsah, Konadu Yiadom as well as midfielder Gladson Awako and now Suraj Seidu are the other Hearts of Oak players in the Ghana camp preparing feverishly in Egypt for the tournament which starts on Friday, January 13, 2023.
