Former Ghana defender Joe Addo has suggested the Black Stars do not mean business going into the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Ghana, four time African champions, are in the same group with 2006 semi-finalist Portugal, two-time champions Uruguay, and 2002 semi-finalist South Korea.

The best performance of the West Africans came in 2010 when they reached the quarter-finals in South Africa.

Portugal coach Fernando Santos has been in charge of Os Navegadores since September 2014 and guided the Iberians to success in the 2016 Euros.

Uruguay coach Diego Alonso also boosts of a rich CV having been actively coaching for the past 10 seasons while South Korea will come into the Mundial with former Portugal coach Paulo Bento who has managed Sporting CP, Olympiakos and Portugal. He has been at the helm since 2018 and led Portugal to the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars go into the World Cup hoping to qualify against these established coaches with a part-time head coach Otto Addo.

Addo, 47, is the Head of Talent Development at German side Borussia Dortmund and doesn’t match up to the standards of his competitors in the Group.

Former Tottenham manager, Chris Hughton who is part of the Ghana technical team is only acting in an advisory role.

The situation has compelled former defender Joe Addo to sharply criticise the team ahead of next month’s tournament.

“You’re going there with a part-time coach? Are you kidding me in this day and age? We must have a substantive Coach to go to World Cup. Either we have a permanent coach or we don’t have a coach.” Addo fumed on GHOne TV.
