Korean sides impress in AFC Champions League as Daegu and Jeonnam record AFC

No Korean side tasted defeat in Friday’s AFC Champions League games two clubs recorded away wins with Ulsan Hyundai holding Japanese side Kawasaki Frontale to a 1-1 drawn game at the Kawasaki Todoroki Stadium.

2018 FA Cup winners Daegu FC were the biggest winners on the night as the Sky Blues returned from their trip to Jinan with a massive 7-0 victory over Chinese Super League title-holders Shandong Taishan.

37-year-old winger Lee Keun-Ho opened the floodgate as early as the 15th minute with Brazilian forward Jose Joaquim Carvalho hitting a stunning hat-trick on the opening day of the group stages.

Elsewhere, Jeonnam opened their account in the competition with a vital 1-0 triumph over Filipino club United City FC. Kosovo forward Leonard Pllana marked his debut in the competition by striking the solitary strike 3 minutes from time.

Ulsan Hyundai, the other Korean side also secured an important 1-1 drawn game against the Japanese side Kawasaki Frontale. The Ulsan-based drew first blood through Leonardo Nascimento Lopes de Souza at the 21st-minute mark. But, Japanese defender Shintaro Kurumaya pulled parity for the host in stoppage-time.

Ghana have been drawn in the same group with South Korea in the 2022 FIFA World Cup along with Portugal and Uruguay.

Korean side Pohang Steelers lost the 2021 final to Saudi Arabia side Al-Hilal.
