Augustine Yaw Blay carried shoulder-high after the ceremony

The Executive Secretary to the Vice President, Augustine Yaw Blay, has been honoured by the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council with the stool name, ‘Aboafohene Yaw Awuah I’, at a colourful ceremony at Sefwi Wiawso, the Western North regional capital.

The honour was bestowed on Mr. Blay for his contributions and role he played in the creation of the Western North Region by President Akufo-Addo and his New Patriotic Party (NPP)-led administration.

The President of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council, who is also a member of the Council of State representing the area, Okatakyie Kwasi Bumangama II supervised the ceremony.

It formed part of activities to mark this year’s Elluo Festival of the chiefs and people of Sefwi Wiawso which was on the theme: “Uplifting the Image of Sefwi Wiawso and Beyond.”

Some personalities who have also contributed to the development of Sefwi were also honoured.

They included Kwame Nyame, popularly known as Kwame Karlo, CEO of KAN Royal Group of Companies and the Nkosohene of Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, Oheneba Kwabena Osei, who is also the first son of Okatakyie Bumangama.

Addressing the crowd at the well-attended ceremony at the Okogyebour Palace, Okatakyie Bumangama II said a nation that does not honour its heroes is not worth dying for.

He commended all those honoured for their immense contributions toward the development of Sefwi.

He praised Mr. Blay in particular for contributing towards the area’s youth development in the areas of education, jobs creation and skills training among others.

Mr. Blay later in an interview applauded President Akufo-Addo and his government for honouring their promise of creating the Western North Region.

He said the area is currently witnessing massive infrastructural development and urged the youth in Sefwi to take advantage of the Free Senior High School policy to better their future.

He challenged the youth to pursue courses that will give them the needed skills for the job market.

He promised to collaborate with the Members of Parliament in the Western North Region to initiate projects that would improve the lots of the people, particularly, the youth and commended Okatakyie Bumangama II for the honour done him.

Present at the ceremony were the Deputy CEO of Forestry Commission, Madam Martha Kwayie Manu and a former Deputy Western North Regional Minister and MP for Sefwi Akontombra, Alex D. Tetteh.
