Wazumbians Band To Record New Album In France

Following the warm reception to its Takonasi album released earlier this year, the Wazumbians band is looking forward to recording a new collection of songs in France in early 2022.

The Marseille-based African Corporation Production company has invited the band to record a 10-track album in January and February.

“It is going to be 10 fresh tracks of our usual vibrant Afro-fusion stuff,” said the group’s leader, Francis Chapman Abban-Hagan, better known in music circles as Wazumbi.

“We have been seriously rehearsing toward the job on hand in Marseille and we assure our fans of some exciting new material.”

The band’s leader said they had been experimenting with incorporating more African instruments into their sound and they think the time is ripe now for music lovers everywhere to hear their new approach by way of the scheduled new album.

This year has been a busy one for the Wazumbians. Apart from the private as well as corporate gigs, it was on the bill for major shows such as Africa Day Celebration in May, Felabration in October and Ambolley and Friends in December.

The band was formed in 2016 and plays strictly its own repertoire at gigs. It has participated in music festivals in Togo, Nigeria and Benin and has been hailed for its gripping live presentations. Members are excited about the opportunity to record in France because the French are known to be proud of their culture and their cultural heritage.

“A chance to do something in a space where the people value culture, no matter how short the period, means you also have to clearly showcase what you have and we will do that through the recording sessions in Marseille,” said Wazumbi.
