Government must intervene and buy back illegal guns in the possession of civilians in Bawku and its environs in the Upper East Region says the Bawku Municipal Police Comander.
According to the police chief, the government intervention is the surest way in solving the incessant killing of innocent people with guns in the area.
This follows latest sporadic shootings which occurred last Monday, May 9, 202 and, reportedly claimed four lives, three males and a female.
Speaking on the matter on 3FM on Wednesday May 11, 2022, the Bawku Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Simon Peter Akabati said “we want government intervention to buy the arms”.
“That could solve the situation, or if you bring your arm, we will employ you. That is more comforting than just giving them the money.
“We are still investigating because we don’t understand why these things are happening”.
“We suspect it could be a reprisal attack and four people killed; three males and one female”.
Five people have been arrested and we are being put before court this morning, he said.
