REVEALED: This is why Kotoko stripped Abdul-Ganiyu off Kotoko captaincy [Pure FM]

Ghanaian giants Asante Kotoko removed influential defender Abdul-Ganiyu Ismail from his captaincy position after he instigated players against management of the club, according to Kumasi-based Pure FM.

The Porcupine Warriors announced 5 fresh leaders of the playing body on Tuesday without commenting on the reason for the removal of Ganiyu as previous captain of the team.

Former Medeama SC midfielder Richard Boadu who arrived at the club last season is the new captain for the side.

Defender Mubarik Yussif and Danlad Ibrahim are the new first and second deputy captains respectively.

Cameroonian shot-stopper Pouaty Moise is the fourth deputy captain but Christopher Nettey is the 3rd deputy captain.

With Kotoko failing to explain the rationale behind their decision, Kumasi-based Pure FM have taken the lead to speculate on the reasons for his removal.

According to panelist Biggie on the Pure FM afternoon sports on Tuesday, August 23, 2022, Ganiyu’s removal is as a result of management’s displeasure with his actions to insight the players against the club.

The analyst who claims to have details on the situation revealed that management had not been enthaused with Ganiyu for phoning up players and telling them not to rest to pre-season training over unpaid wages and allowances.

He claims Kotoko’s management blamed the defender for their late start to their 2022/23 pre-season campaign.

It was also reported that the recent situation wasn’t the first and only time Ganiyu had conducted himself in such manners which had left management in a tight corner.

Per the details, the recent attempt to organise the players against the management failed as players went against the directives of the defender and reported to training.

In the heat of the situation, Ganiyu reportedly handed in a transfer request but, he was advised against the move which led him to reverse his stance.

Meanwhile, Kotoko left him behind for the pre-season campaign in Sudan because the leadership of the team feels the former Karela United player has not been mentally sound to join the squad for pre-season.
